Loft, cavity wall insulation or solid wall insulation can dramatically reduce the cost of heating a home. Insulation material prevents warm air from escaping from your home, and for certain groups of people, it can be installed free of charge.

Insulating your property is the quickest and most cost effective way to reduce your energy bills. Loft insulation and cavity wall insulation can be installed either for free or at a subsidised rate under current insulation grant schemes and can slash your energy bill by up to 40% every year.

The big six energy companies are set targets by the Government to reduce the level CO2 emitted by UK households. In order to acheive these targets they must provide funding for home insulation, as this is generally regarded as the easiest and most effective way to improve a property’s energy efficiency.

The government recently launched a new scheme called the Green Deal. As part of this, the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) requires UK energy companies to spend around £1.3 billion a year to improve the energy efficiency of UK homes. Most of this will be spent improving the homes of the most vulnerable.

How do I claim my free insulation?

You can apply here. We’ll match your application to a scheme offering free insulation in your area and an accredited insulation installer will contact you within 24-48hrs to arrange a free survey of your property to ensure you can receive the insulation.

What are the benefits of home insulation?

There are many benefits to insulating your home, here are just a few:

  • Increase the value and saleability of your home
  • Increase your home’s energy rating
  • Create a warmer and more comfortable environment for your family
  • Claim an insulation grant up to 100% towards the cost of the work
  • An average home could save £265 off their annual energy bill
  • Help the UK to reduce carbon emissions

Which option is right for me?

Cavity wall insulation cannot be topped up with additional material.

Typically, if your home was built between 1925 and 1995 it will have been constructed with a cavity wall, which can be filled with insulation material. Installing cavity wall insulation will be the most effective option in this situation. Your property will see a maximum saving when combined with loft insulation, helping to save around 40% off an average energy bill.

Properties built prior to 1925 can have solid wall insulation installed, however this is a more expensive option.

Loft insulation should be installed in every property, providing there is space to do so.
