Home insulation installers are currently doing the rounds, trying to get customers to sign up to their special deals for cheap insulation. Many are door-stepping, some are calling or texting and some are legitimate good deals which are useful and worthwhile looking into. But how on earth do you tell the difference and once you have your quote, how do you know it is a good price? Follow these few tips to find the best insulation quotes for you:
- It is best to avoid dealing with companies who approach you at your door or via texts. This is not considered good practice and you may find you are dealing with a rogue trader who has much more in mind than just installing insulation.
- If you choose a local installer rather than a utility company, you should always get at least three quotes. This will allow you to make proper comparisons and see if each quote is realistic.
- Make sure that each installer know exactly what you want done. Your quote could include loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, loft clearance and even loft boarding. Make sure that each item is clearly listed and each cost worked out separately. If not, you will have trouble working out which is the best value.
- Be wary of special deals which include loft clearance. Some of these will only clear a certain portion of your loft and this may not be suitable for you. It may end up costing you more if you are not aware of the facts before the work starts.
Don’t forget that there are a number of cavity wall insulation grants available. If you are able to take advantage of these schemes you may get your insulation much cheaper or even free. Also beware that at the moment, utility companies are expected to help their most vulnerable customers with insulation. If you are not in the receipt of any benefits, you are unlikely to receive 100% free insulation.
